Emily Slater, Managing Director at Burford, will be speaking at the panel “Democratizing International Law Practice – Leveling the Playing Field?” as part of the Practitioners’ Forum at the ASIL Mid-Year Meeting. The session will take place on 11 November at 6:30pm ET.
The panel will focus on rapid changes in the practice of international law over the past few decades, including a steady rise in international arbitration, proliferation of law firms, increased globalization through technology and increased access to capital via third-party funding. The panelists will consider whether these changes bring about a democratization of the practice of international investment law, more opportunities for diverse, international lawyers and what barriers remain to equitable opportunities.
ASIL was founded in 1906 and is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, educational membership organization The Society's nearly 4,000 members from more than 100 nations include attorneys, academics, corporate counsel, judges, representatives of governments and non-governmental organizations, international civil servants, students, and others interested in international law.
