Melissa Sobel is Deputy General Counsel with responsibility for Burford’s global corporate legal initiatives.
Prior to joining Burford, Ms. Sobel was Associate General Counsel at Time Inc., where she served as the legal adviser to various divisions of the company, providing counsel on corporate, commercial and media law matters. Before that, she was a senior corporate lawyer at Debevoise & Plimpton, focusing on mergers & acquisitions and other transactions.
Ms. Sobel has served on numerous New York City Bar Association committees, including as Chair of the Entertainment Law Committee and Secretary of the Women in the Legal Profession Committee. She graduated cum laude from New York University School of Law, where she was a member and Secretary of the Moot Court Board. She earned an undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University.
