Burford's Co-COO David Perla on 2023 legal finance trends

Burford Co-COO David Perla provides insight and analysis to The American Lawyer in a piece on 2023 trends.

In the piece, he says that "'The frenzy that we saw in 2021 has slowed down considerably, and you saw more firms cut costs to preserve profits...What that’s translating into for us, and what’s happening across the Am Law firms with plaintiffs’ practices, is an increased appetite to take on risk or to increase risk, and they want a partner to help them.'"

Perla also discusses law firm innovation and says that COOs and heads of innovation at firms "'are smart and they’ve gone out and said, ‘What are our other solutions?’ They are our allies in educating the partners—ambassadors to the GC and CFO. It’s been something of a joint effort.'"
