Retired Latham & Watkins partner to be Managing Director of leading global finance firm focused on law
July 26, 2018 – Burford Capital is announcing that recently retired Latham & Watkins partner G. Andrew “Andy” Lundberg has joined its ranks, further augmenting its industry-leading legal finance team.
As a Managing Director of Burford and member of its Investment Committee, Lundberg will focus on working with Burford and its law firm and corporate clients to assess and manage legal risk, especially in the area of insurance coverage disputes.
Lundberg brings considerable expertise and renown to his new role, following a 35-year career at Latham & Watkins during which he was global Co-chair of the firm’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Practice for 15 years and Chair of its Los Angeles Litigation Department for five years. He litigated coverage actions in state and federal courts nationwide, with clients including Ford Motor Company, Montrose Chemical, America Online, GlaxoSmithKline, Guthy-Renker, Silicon Valley Bank, Beckman Coulter, Southern California Edison and the Los Angeles Dodgers, and counseled numerous Fortune 500 companies on insurance matters.
The Los Angeles Business Journal profiled Lundberg as one of Los Angeles’ top dozen litigators. From 2007 forward, Chambers & Partners’ America’s Leading Business Lawyers named him one of the top dozen policyholder attorneys in America. He was also listed annually as a leading insurance practitioner in The Legal 500, The Best Lawyers in America and Guide to the World’s Leading Insurance & Reinsurance Lawyers. Best Lawyers named him Los Angeles’ Insurance Lawyer of the Year in 2017.
Lundberg earned his JD with honors from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review and a teaching fellow for Prof. Archibald Cox. He received his AB from Stanford University with distinction. Before entering private practice, Lundberg clerked for the Hon. George E. MacKinnon of the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit.
