In coverage of Burford’s 2018 Litigation Finance Survey for Law360, Andrew Strickler writes that “more than one in three interviewees indicated that their organizations had used litigation financing—a massive jump from the 10 percent affirmative responses in Burford’s survey six years ago.” The coverage highlights the nearly-40 interviews Burford conducted with Fortune 500 in-house counsel and others, which “showed a ‘significant gap’ in utilization by law firm lawyers, who were far more likely to have gone to an outside investor to help fund a legal matter.” The article quotes Burford’s Chris Bogart:
“Even with the continued and dramatic growth of litigation finance in the last few years, there remains significant opportunity for further growth, most obviously among corporate legal teams that are still only partly aware of the utility of litigation finance and who haven’t yet fully grasped its benefits to their business.”
